Restoring Acadia Talk

Restoring Acadia Talk In-Person / Online

On Tuesday, October 15 at 5:30 p.m., the Southwest Harbor Public Library and Friends of Acadia will host the talk “Restoration Efforts in Acadia National Park: a Look at the Great Meadow, Bass Harbor Marsh, and Mountain Summits” with Jesse Wheeler, Vegetation Program Manager, Acadia National Park and Lauren Gibson, Wild Acadia Coordinator, Friends of Acadia. Join us at the library or online.

The Wild Acadia initiative is an interdisciplinary, partnership-based approach to restoration in Acadia National Park. It considers the changes in the climate that we are seeing now as well as those that we’ll likely see in the future and attempts to focus restoration goals towards more resilient environments, not restoring back to some time in history. Acadia National Park, Schoodic Institute, and Friends of Acadia are taking an experimental, learning-based approach that supports active restoration while allowing researchers and managers to learn and make changes along the way. Please join us as we dive into these remarkable restoration efforts at summit peaks, in freshwater wetlands, and the salt marshes of Acadia.
