Frances Perkins Exhibit

Frances Perkins Exhibit In-Person

The Southwest Harbor Public Library is honored to host the Francis Perkins Traveling Exhibit from February 2-14th. The traveling exhibit presents an overview of the life of Frances Perkins, highlighting her accomplishments through historic photographs, text, and personal memorabilia.

One of the courses Acadia Senior College offered this winter term tells the story of Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labor under Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933 to 1945. She is widely recognized as a driving force behind the New Deal, most notably for the policies that created Social Security, the forty-hour work week, overtime pay, unemployment insurance, workplace safety standards and a ban on child labor.

In conjunction with this Senior College class, Southwest Harbor Public Library has arranged to display the traveling exhibit from the Frances Perkins Center. These 6 large panels will be on display at the Library for the first two weeks of February. Whether you are taking the course or not, don't miss this opportunity to learn about this extraordinary woman.

The “Frances Perkins: The Woman Behind the New Deal” is a condensed version of the exhibit currently on view at the Frances Perkins Center in downtown Damariscotta, Maine. This opportunity to view this exhibit is made possible due to the Center’s generous foundation and private support, specifically the Maine Community Foundation, Maine Humanities Council, Historic New England, Katharine J. Watson, and Newman’s Own Foundation. Visit the Frances Perkins Center at 170A Main Street, Damariscotta, Maine. https://francesperkinscenter.org/
