Join us for a Writer’s Forum Conversation at the Causeway co-hosted by the Southwest Harbor Public Library, on Friday, August 4th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Causeway Club Barn at 10 Fernald Point Road in Southwest Harbor. Best-selling novelist Christina Baker Kline, nonfiction writer Gigi Georges, and Tara Kelly whose memoir, No Last Words, is coming out August 8th, will discuss how Maine, the place, the vibe, and the reality vs. the fantasy, factors into their writing. Charles Stanhope, a Library Trustee and retired Senior Advisor at the Library of Congress, will moderate the conversation and take questions from the audience. The event is free with a light reception and is open to the public, but registration is required. Parking is limited.
Christina Baker Kline is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of eight novels, including The Exiles, Orphan Train, and A Piece of the World. Her novels have received the New England Prize for Fiction, and the Maine Literary Award, among other prizes, and have been chosen by hundreds of communities, universities and schools as “One Book, One Read” selections. Her essays, articles, and reviews have appeared in publications such as the New York Times and the NYT Book Review, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The San Francisco Chronicle, LitHub, Psychology Today, and Slate.
Gigi Georges, Ph.D., is the author of Downeast: Five Maine Girls and the Unseen Story of Rural America. A former White House Special Assistant to the President and U.S. Senate State Director, she has taught political science at Boston College, served as Program Director at the Harvard Kennedy School, and been a Managing Director of The Glover Park Group—a leading national public affairs firm. Her commentary and research-based articles have appeared in Time Magazine, the New York Times, Bloomberg.com, LitHub, M.I.T.’s Innovations Journal, and the Harvard Kennedy School’s Occasional Paper Series. She lives with her family in New Hampshire and Downeast Maine.
Tara Kelly has been a columnist and features writer for The Lakeville Journal, a volunteer EMT, a writer/producer in the Marketing Department of Lifetime Television, an “Under-Five” extra on All My Children, and a reluctant first mate on the coast of Maine. Kelly married Robert Willis, who grew up in Southwest Harbor, and spent the next twenty plus summers on Mt. Desert Island, including ten summers on Greenings Island. A graduate of Bennington College’s MFA Writing program, Kelly is a contributing writer to Millbrook Magazine.
