Book Talk Short Stories

Book Talk Short Stories In-Person

On Tuesday, October 1 at 5:30 p.m., the Southwest Harbor Public Library will host a talk with local author Caroline Ailanthus, the author of “Ecological Memory” and now its sequel, “Birfurcation Events.” “Ecological Memory” featured a global pandemic but was written before COVID-19. “Birfurcation Events” is a group of interrelated short stories and novellas exploring how unexpected events-like a pandemic- can profoundly impact our lives in a myriad of ways. One piece in the collection, a short novel, is set on Mount Desert Island—largely at Long Pond and Southwest Harbor.

Caroline Ailanthus is a science writer, free-lancer, and naturalist who usually lives in Maryland with her husband and assorted cats and dogs. But on a semi-regular basis, the entire menagerie drifts north, often to Mount Desert Island. Bifurcation Events is the author’s third published novel. She has also published short non-fiction and maintains several blogs.

Call the library at 204-244-7065 or email programs@swhplibrary.org for more info.
