World Postcard Day Celebration In-Person
Join us on Wednesday, October 1st from 2:00 - 4:15 p.m. at the Library to celebrate World Postcard Day in person with Noah Burby. This year, in addition to celebrating the Library's 130th anniversary, we will also commemorate Postcrossing's 20th birthday. As a sanctioned Postcrossing meetup, you can meet and learn from Postcrossing members. Special postcards will be made to commemorate the event and will be available for purchase. Feel free to bring your own cards, pens, and stamps. After the event, we will bring cards ready to be sent to the Southwest Harbor Post Office. Register to attend this in-person program.
Event schedule:
2:00 - 2:30 p.m. (Optional): Peruse local shops for postcards. Special cards will be for sale at the event to commemorate the occasion.
2:30 - 4:00 p.m.: Meet up and write cards.
4:00 - 4:15 p.m. (Optional): Wrap up, stroll to the post office, and send cards/buy stamps.
Since 1869, postcards have been a practical means of sending brief communications. On this 156th anniversary of the postcard, we invite you to join us for an afternoon of writing postcards and learning about the vibrant global community of postcards, better known as Postcrossing. Postcrossing celebrates connection through the simple act of sending postcards. The goal of this project is to allow anyone to send and receive postcards from all over the world.
