Donald Trump promised to end American wars and entanglements. Deals and tariffs would spur an American industrial renaissance. Trump claimed he ended eight wars and deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. His Board of Peace would rescue Gaza. Now he wages war. He blockaded and raided Venezuela then launched a massive air war against Iran with little foresight and no endgame. Cuba is under an energy blockade. Trump threatens Greenland and Canada and the European Union, but favors Russia and China. What is Trump’s worldview and his goal? Will the wars end or multiply? Will Trump’s policies ruin or strengthen the United States in world affairs?
Seth Singleton has taught foreign policy in the United States, most recently at the University of Maine, and in Russia, Tanzania, and Ecuador. He has been a speaker for the State Department in China and Vietnam and in African countries including Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Africa. He studied Russian history at Harvard and international relations at Yale. He spent the Cold War trying to figure out what the Soviet Union was up to and now asks similar questions about the United States.
