Cancelled: Poetry Reading/Flash Visual Response for Families at the library In-Person

Have any young artists in your family?

ArtWaves and the Southwest Harbor Public Library are teaming up for an Artist & Poets Celebration of April Poetry Month.

On Saturday, April 9 at 11:00 a.m., adults and children are welcome to create art together at the Southwest Harbor Public Library. The library is excited to host local poet Paul Weiss who will read 3-4 of his poems and share copies with the artists in attendance. In partners or by themselves, attendees will create "flash art" - within an hour -in response to one of the poems. There will be materials on hand to utilize during the art creation process. At the end of the event, each poem for which visual responses have been created will be read again by Paul and the flash art for that poem will be shared. If the artists are willing, images will be posted in conjunction with the poems as part of the Artists & Poets exhibit at the Southwest Harbor Public Library in May. Registration required.

Please wear a mask for this in-person program.

Paul Weiss began serious practice in zen as well as tai chi in 1966 and spent years in several training and monastic settings, including in schools and clinics in China. In 1981 he founded The Whole Health Center in Bar Harbor, Maine, where he teaches, counsels, and offers meditation retreats and his True Heart, True Mind Intensive. A life-long poet, he is the author of two collections of poems and essays, You Hold This and Moonlight Leaning Against an Old Rail Fence: Approaching Dharma as Poetry. -- Simon & Schuster bio
