Last Day Women's History Month Exhibit In-Person

In celebration of Women’s History Month March 2024, the Library hosts a Commuinty Exhibit inspired by the theme “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity”.

MDIslanders near and far show items and creations during the month of March, inspired by the National Women’s History Alliance 2023 theme. The exhibit showcases the ways in which women of all ages and walks of life celebrate the women storytellers in our lives and include a wide variety of pieces ranging from quilts, to oils, watercolor and acrylic paintings, rug hooking, knitting, fabric applique, textile, collage, mixed media, and more.

Artist Statement

We live in an area rich in natural beauty, but insular and lacking in cultural diversity.  Librarians, especially children's librarians, bring to us the world which we don't experience firsthand…stories of people whose experiences are different than our own promote empathy and social justice.  Their importance is especially poignant in this era of book banning.

Biography

I've been making art all my life, in various media, with a penchant for sculpture.  I studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, and am a perpetual student in the "school of life."  I'm rooted in the rural life in Tremont.

NOTE:  The "books" in this piece are NOT my art, they are photos from a  book actual contemporary children's book covers.
